Double Hung Windows

A double hung window is defined as a window that has two sashes, each one capable of moving up and down within the frame. In contrast, a single hungwindow has a fixed upper sash, and a moveable lower sash.
Typically found in classic Georgian or Victorian-style houses, double hung windows are most commonly constructed of wood. Modern advancements have led to the use of other materials, such as aluminum, vinyl, and fiberglass. Today, double hung windows are available as new construction or replacement models, both with the following glazing options:
- Single Pane
- Double Pane
- Triple Pane
There are additional cooling benefits of double hung windows in comparison with other styles. By evenly opening the upper and lower sashes, heat is drawn out of the room through the upper sash, while cool air is drawn into the room through the lower sash. By utilizing this feature in conjunction with the high efficiency of a triple pane, one can drastically reduce their energy costs.
