When it comes to buying new windows, style isn’t the only thing that you should be paying attention to.  Obviously, deciding on between double-hung, French, awning or casement windows is an important decision, and will have a huge impact on the overall look of your home or other building.

But what kind of material are you going to choose for your windows?  Modern windows can be made from a wide range of materials, each with it’s own advantages.

PVC windows easy to clean

Vinyl, or PVC, windows offer great value.  They are less expensive than wood or aluminum windows, and although they may be somewhat less durable, they provide excellent energy efficiency.  The choice of styles and colours is generally more limited than for aluminum.  It is important to ensure that any PVC windows purchased are not made of recycled materials.  Recycled PVC has a strong tendency to yellow and crack after prolonged exposure to the elements.  Many “off-the-shelf” PVC windows – such as those found at big box hardware stores  – are made from recycled PVC.
